چکیده

Skeletal fluorosis is rare in NorthAmerica. It can present with back pain and extremity weakness. Immobilization of the spine and the extremity joints can occur. It is usually caused by abnormally increased oral fluoride intake over many years. Epidural lipomatosis is usually caused by idiopathic obesity or corticosteroid use. It has been linked to highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Fluorosis and epidural lipomatosis are each rare causes of compressive myelopathy, and have never been described previously as a combined cause of spinal stenosis leading to myelopathy. We describe an unusual case of thoracic myelopathy due to coexistence of both conditions.

Symptomatic epidural lipomatosis in ectopic Cushing's syndrome.

We report a case of spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) caused by ectopic Cushing's syndrome and give a review of the literature. The most common cause of SEL is prolonged therapy with glucocorticoids, only a very few cases are related to endogenous Cushing's syndrome. The pathophysiological mechanism is not clear but there is a possible role for the autonomic nervous system in the stimulation of...

Syringomyelia is a not infrequent pathology that develops related to changes in cerebrospinal fluid dynamics due to many etiological factors. The development of syringomyelia through a spinal arachnoid cyst is quite rare and has been defined in only 31 cases in the literature. A case due to thoracic epidural lipomatosis has also been reported. There have been no previous reports of thoracic reg...

An unusual case of spinal cord compression from concomitant spinal epidural lipomatosis and Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Spinal epidural lipomatosis (SEL) results from an abnormal accumulation of unencapsulated fat within the epidural space and is a rare cause of spinal cord compression, which needs to be considered with a high index of suspicion. It most commonly occurs secondary to chronic corticosteroid use and endocrinopathies. Idiopathic cases are highly associated with obesity. We report an unusual case of ...
